Mary Tooke
Mary Tooke graduated from the High School for the Performing & Visual Arts where she studied voice. She received a BSIS degree from the University of Houston and has been teaching guitar, piano, and voice for over 20 years. Mary has developed a unique style of teaching music, incorporating theory, ear training, and performance technique, tailored to fit each student’s talents.
Mary has continued to hone her teaching skills, attending workshops given by renowned teachers such as Melody Bober, Randall Faber and Kevin Olson. Most of these workshops were notably offered through The Music Rack in Spring, TX where Mary now teaches. “I’m very excited to be part of the Music Rack team and look forward to working with new students of all ages.” Mary looks for the strengths in each student and builds upon that foundation.
Several of Mary’s students have graduated or now attend HSPVA. Many are recording artists, technicians and music teachers themselves. “One of the shining aspects of teaching music is watching students grow into mature, dedicated musicians who love sharing their gift. I am proud to part of their musical journey.”
Mary’s teaching philosophy is simple:
- Encourage students to talk about their musical goals.
- Customize lessons to fit each student’s personality.
- Praise students often for their accomplishments.
