Mariblanca Depujadas

Mariblanca Depujadas, originally from Barcelona, Spain began her music career as a child prodigy at the age of two. Her mother, a pianist herself, recognized the first signs of musical precocity. In Barcelona, her exceptional gifts brought her to the attention of Frank Marshall, the eminent piano pedagogue and successor of the Granados Piano Academy in Barcelona where in latter years Ms. Depujadas has taught and collaborated in master classes with the famous pianist Alicia de Larrocha.

As a child prodigy Ms. Depujadas performed concerts in her native Spain as soloist with symphony orchestras and later toured several countries in South America. At the age of five she moved to the United States with her family and settled in Los Angeles, California where she continued her studies with Sergei Tarnowsky (Vladimir Horowitz's first teacher in Kiev), and later studied at the University of Southern California with Lillian Steuber. In her late teens Ms. Depujadas continued her studies at the Juilliard School of Music under Adele Marcus a pupil of the legendary Russian pianist Josef Lhevinne. Ms. Depujadas had a very successful musical career during her 30 plus years in Los Angeles, both as a teacher and as a concert pianist. She performed throughout California in colleges and universities in solo recitals and as soloist with symphony orchestras performing concertos by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven among others. Her students were frequent State-Wide winners of several competitions sponsored by the California Music Teachers' Association as well as performing in the Young Artist Recitals at the State Conventions and Bach Festivals also sponsored by the Music Teachers' Association of California. In addition, Ms. Depujadas is a frequent judge for the annual piano auditions of the National Guild of Piano Teachers sponsored by the American College of Musicians since the early 1980's.

Ms. Depujadas moved to Houston in the fall of 1994 but has returned to Barcelona on several occasions. Having returned from Barcelona last fall after teaching at the Conservatory and at the Marshall Piano Academy, Ms. Depujadas has returned to Houston and is settling here to resume her teaching schedule as well as to continue being active with the various music teachers associations in Texas and with the American College of Musicians.
