Features:

Instrumentation: 5/4/4/4 (Alto and Tenor Saxophone double on Soprano; Trumpets double on Flugelhorn) This composition won the 2003 ASCAP/IAJE commission in honor of Quincy Jones and was premiered at the 2004 International Association for Jazz Education conference. The piece opens with a haunting soprano saxophone solo which may also be played on pennywhistle, wood flute, piccolo or other soprano woodwind instrument. As the composition unfolds, unique colors of the ensemble are explored as the harmonic structure becomes denser. Other featured solo instruments are trumpet, tenor saxophone, piano and drums.
